DOWSETTMAYHEW were instructed to secure planning permission for the comprehensive redevelopment of industrial land within the Metropolitan Green Belt in rural Kent, for the construction of a new waste transfer station to serve the Sevenoaks area, incorporating municipal and civic amenity waste.

The site comprised an existing small scale waste transfer Station, civic amenity site, and green waste composting facility. The proposed scheme incorporated the comprehensive demolition and redevelopment of existing buildings and the construction of a new 2,500m2 building with modern facilities for the collection and transfer of waste serving Sevenoaks and the wider area.

DOWSETTMAYHEW project managed the preparation of the application and the comprehensive suite of supporting documents necessary to justify the suitability of the site and proposed design. This included reports on ecology, flood risk, dust, noise, odour, traffic and visual impact on the Metropolitan Green Belt and adjacent Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It contained the necessary Very Special Circumstances to justify development in this sensitive Green Belt setting. The application was supported by officers and planning permission was granted in 2013.
