Project Description

Location: Eastbourne – Sussex
Project: Heritage & conservation

DOWSETTMAYHEW were instructed to secure planning permission and Listed Building consent for refurbishment works to an impressive Grade I and Grade II* group of buildings on the edge of Eastbourne, Sussex. Working closely with Local Authority Heritage advisers and through a series of applications, consent has been secured for conversion of redundant former stables and associated buildings to create additional classrooms for a language school and office accommodation. The consents also authorised refurbishment and repair to the main Grade I Listed Building.

Working with Managing Land Agents, consensus was built over a series of pre-application discussions to ensure proposals were submitted with the support of both local conservation advisers and English Heritage. These consents have enabled viable future uses to be secured for redundant buildings, to ensure their long term conservation management. This has been delivered through sensitive design and limited impact on the Listed Buildings, retaining and enhancing all key features.

DOWSETTMAYHEW led on the negotiations with the Local Planning Authority, worked closely with scheme Architects and prepared necessary supporting Heritage Impact Assessments in order to justify the grant of consents. The permissions have now been implemented.
