Project Description

Location: Lewes – East Sussex
Project: Rural

DOWSETTMAYHEW were instructed to support Field Architecture in securing planning permission for an architecturally design-led residential conversion of a redundant rural building within Lewes District. Integral to the design solution was securing permission for a significant extension to the building range and incorporation of a glazed cloister.

Working closely with scheme architects, DOWSETTMAYHEW led pre-application negotiations with the Local Planning Authority to facilitate an iterative design process that was fully justified and supported.

The scheme was the subject of detailed analysis and careful design justification, including responding to initial concerns and limitations of the scheme, to ensure a contemporary interpretation of a barn conversion, incorporating alterations and additions was successful in securing planning permission. The scheme required ongoing proactive negotiation with the Local Planning Authority and responding to statutory and key stakeholders to ensure the application was approved.
