Project Description
Location: Shere – Surrey
Project: Heritage & conservation
DOWSETTMAYHEW were instructed to secure planning permission for the construction of a new dwelling within the curtilage of a Grade II Listed Building within the heart of a sensitive Conservation Area within a Surrey Green Belt village.
Working with sustainable house designers, Scandia-Hus, planning permission was secured for the construction of a new dwelling for a property over 3 floors, including a wholly subterranean basement.
The site is within the grounds of a Grade II Listed Building in commercial use, within an attractive High Street location in a Conservation Area. It is also within the Surrey Green Belt and Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The site had had a legacy of refusals of planning permission for residential development.
Working closely with scheme designers and the Local Planning Authority, plans were developed and evolved for a high quality bespoke property that positively responded to its sensitive setting, creating a new building typology that was sympathetic to the Listed Building and wider Conservation Area. This included careful use of the sloping topography of the site.
Through a series of applications, DOWSETTMAYHEW secured the support of the Local Planning Authority and local politicians in early 2014. Construction is now under way.
